I can't believe it! I am finally feeling like an actual teacher. From courses and practicums, to a one hundred hour internship in a first grade classroom, I made it to this point. You education majors out there know what I'm talking about. This is getting real! I have been placed in an amazing school with a very talented staff and wonderful community. I couldn't be more blessed! This semester will be full of work, creativity, frustration, and incredible happy days. Yes, I am ready for it all! I'll be getting my feet wet more and more every day until I actually take over the whole classroom (ahhhh!) Here's to a year full of new lessons and experiences! I really am ecstatic...if you can't tell ;)
I came back from my winter break ready to get started with this semester and let me tell ya, it has started! I have never been more busy. However, I am finding time to put my efforts into things that I really do enjoy! While playing soccer, I always told myself I would run a half marathon when I finished. I remember making myself promise that I wouldn't get lost without this sport and that I would get involved in something else. Well... on Tuesday, Eric and I ran about three miles worth of trails at our local nature conservatory and that running bug bit me! I invested in a really good pair of running shoes (Brooks) and I can't wait to get my training started! I ran four years of cross country in high school and it feels so good to just hit trails and routes again. My running is nowhere near what is was in high school, but I hoping my old runner-self is in here somewhere. I'm looking at a few potential half-marathons and will register for one here pretty soon! I've looked at a few training programs and I think I'll start off with Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Training Program. Looking at it, it seems to be really straightforward and will get me ready in about 12 weeks. I'll be letting you all know how it goes! Wish me luck in getting started!
On another note, lets talk about goals! As you can see, completing my first half marathon has made my list. It's a goal that I think has a lot of incentives, especially when I register! It will be harder for me to quit once I've made a commitment to do it and I will be able to see results in my running times every week. Another goal of mine is to be more intentional with my friends and make time in my week to spend quality time with them. One-on-one coffee dates, dinner dates, fun activity dates... and even bringing that into a bigger friend group. I really do have the best friends and I want to take advantage of their awesomeness! My third personal goal is to reflect on my teaching by journaling and keeping up with self-learning. Taking the time every week to research new teaching techniques and putting them into practice and then reflecting on how they go, this is the sort of stuff that I need to pour my heart into.
Eric and I have made some "couple goals" for this year. He is just the sweetest, y'all. We brainstormed ideas of what we wanted to accomplish in our relationship together. Here is what we decided!
- Once a month, each of us will plan a fun date day/night or both! (this doesn't exclude other dates that we'd go on, but these are just extra special since we would be putting a lot of planning into)
- Weekly bible study and mass. We are looking into a few books of the bible to read together and have a study/discussion/prayer over. We feel that this is really important for our relationship and for us as individuals.
- Accountability. Yes! I really need this! Keeping each other accountable for our personal goals, our work, and our intentions.
I can't wait to see where this year will take us!
Guys, if you can't tell already, I am so pumped for this year!
Thanks for stopping by!
